Campbell Unveils Salt Reduction Plan

Campbell Soup Company said its Pepperidge Farm division will reduce sodium content across its portfolio of 84 breads, rolls and bagels by February 2011.

The food manufacturer said 80% of the farm products, including 69 varieties, will be at least 25% lower in sodium by the period.

Nearly half of all Pepperidge Farm sliced breads, which includes 22 varieties, are already at least 25% lower in sodium than regular sliced breads, it claimed.

In March 2010, Kraft Foods announced plans to reduce sodium by 10% across its products primarily in North America over the next two years.

ConAgra Foods in October 2009 announced its intention of cutting sodium by 20% over the next five years.
