Covid-19: Kemin supports healthcare facilities and employees in Italy

Global ingredient manufacturer Kemin Industries announced that it has assisted local healthcare facilities and recognised its ‘essential’ employees in Italy during the coronavirus (Covid-19) lockdown.

The company was permitted to continue operating since the country has been under lockdown from 9 March. It was considered an essential business and allowed to operate its facilities.

It has been engaged in the production as its products were required to ensure the world’s food supply and ensure the health and safety of people, as well as pets and animals.

Kemin president and CEO Dr Chris Nelson said: “The value these team members bring to Kemin cannot be measured, but we wanted to show our appreciation for their incredible efforts with additional compensation during an extremely stressful situation.

“Particularly in Italy and San Marino, where Covid-19 has devastated the country and the microstate, I am in awe of the amazing work ethic and driven attitude of our team members, and I cannot thank them enough for their contributions.”

The company added that its ‘essential’ employees in Italy and San Marino have continued to complete their critical work during the lockdown.

It has also given a 50% salary increase to appreciate the commitment of the employees who were required to be physically present at its facilities during the outbreak.

Kemin Food and Human Worldwide Group president Giuseppe Abrate said: “Italy and San Marino have been ravaged by Covid-19, and yet Kemin team members continue to produce the ingredients that keep the world’s food supply, pet food and our garments safe.”

Earlier this month, Kemin Industries announced a $1m bonus programme for its employees working at its facility during the pandemic.
