Meat from Third Cloned Animal Sold in UK

The UK’s Food Standards Agency (FSA) has said meat from a third cow bred using a cloned animal was sold in London last month.

The agency’s comment followed reports indicating that clone-derived beef had also been exported.

The FSA is also looking into reports that milk was sold from animals bred using embryos of a cloned cow.

The agency said consuming meat and products from healthy clones, or their offspring, does not pose a food safety risk but the products need to be authorised before being placed on the market.

The investigations started after a US newspaper reported allegations that clone-derived milk had been sold.
