Nestlé to expand pizza facility in Germany

Swiss food giant Nestlé is investing €45m ($60.73m) in the expansion of its Wagner facility in Otzenhausen, Germany, with the aim of strengthening its pizza business.

Nestlé executive vice-president Werner Bauer said the project will ensure that Wagner, in which Nestle holds a 74% controlling stake, can meet increasing consumer demand for pizzas for years to come.

Besides the frozen food products manufactured under brands such as Big Pizza, Piccolinis and Die Backfrische, the plant will also manufacture pizza varieties that are organic, wholegrain and lactose-free.

The extended plant is expected to be fully operational in 2013.
