BRF plans to open subsidiary to enter halal meat market

Brazil-based meat processor BRF has plans to establish a subsidiary that can boost its supply of meat to Muslim markets worldwide.

To be known as Sadia Halal, the subsidiary will be responsible for selling halal meat products to Muslim markets.

The unit will have assets related to processing, distribution and sale of halal meat.

With this subsidiary, BRF intends to create a single entity that will completely focus on this segment.

As slaughtering and handling techniques are different for halal and ordinary meat, BRF expects Sadia Halal will enable the company to cater to markets not currently served by the company.

According to a research, the halal market is worth apparently $44bn and it is expected to reach $58bn in another four years, reported Globalmeatnews.com.

The firm opened a new office in April at Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia. This office is being used this a platform to supply halal meat in Asia.
