Food industry deals total $2.1bn globally in March 2021

Total food industry deals worth $2.1bn were announced globally for March 2021, with the $850m private equity deal with Aryzta being the sector’s biggest investment, according to GlobalData’s deals database.

The value marked a decrease of 51.05% over the previous month of $4.29bn and a drop of 16% when compared with the last 12-month average of $2.5bn.

In terms of number of deals, the sector saw a rise of 20.78% with 93 deals in March 2021 when compared to the last 12-month average of 77 deals.

In value terms, North America led the activity with deals worth $1.26bn in March 2021.

The top five deals accounted for 79.6% of the overall value during March 2021.

The combined value of the top five deals stood at $1.67bn, against the overall value of $2.1bn recorded for the month.

1) Lindsay Goldberg’s $850m private equity deal with Aryzta

2) The $300m venture financing of Guoquan Shihui by CMB International Securities and Tiantu Investments

3) Charlesbank Capital Partners, Qatar Investment Authority and Vulcan Capital Management’s $200m venture financing of Eat JUST

4) The $200m venture financing deal of Livekindly by Rabo Corporate Investments, S2G Ventures and The Rise Fund

5) Black Ant Capital, CITIC Agricultural Fund, Dehong Capital, Jingwei China, Maixing Investment, Purui Investment Fund, Sequoia China Fund and Yunfeng Fund L.P’s venture financing deal with Jane Eyre for $122.4m.
