IFF to expand flavours plant in Turkey

International Flavors & Fragrances (IFF), a US-based producer of flavours and fragrances, plans to invest over $50m in its plant in Gebze, Turkey, over the next three years.

The investment is part of the company’s plan to meet increased demand in Europe, Africa and the Middle East.

The project includes the construction of a new 2,000m² creative facility and an 18,000m² expansion of its existing manufacturing site.

IFF chairman and chief executive officer Doug Tough said that the investment will provide additional support to key emerging markets, and is indicative of the company’s long-term commitment to these regions.

IFF Flavors Europe, Africa and the Middle East (EAME) regional general manager Matthias Haeni said with this project, the company is providing creative, technical and sensory talent to support its customers in the region.

"And with the planned efficiency improvements in manufacturing and supply, we will be well-positioned to increase the very important speed-to-market," Haeni added.

The expanded facility will create flavours that are customised to meet consumer preferences in a wide range of markets across the region.

It will cater to manufacturers of sweet goods, beverages, dairy products and savoury prepared foods.

IFF noted that the plant will comply with Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED) standards, in line with the company’s commitment to sustainability.

In the past year the company has made several investments in emerging markets, including the opening of a liquid flavours and fragrance manufacturing facility in Singapore, the construction of a flavours plant in Guangzhou, China, and the opening of a new creative, technical, sensory and sales facility for flavours in Delhi, India.
