Crab Meat Products Recalled Over Bacteria Contamination

Hallmark Fisheries in Oregon, US, is recalling packaged crab meat products after tests found that some products contained listeria monocytogenes bacteria.

The sea-food processing company said the products have been sold under the brand names Hallmark, Peacock, Quality Ocean International and Yaquina Bay.

Listeria monocytogenes bacteria can cause serious and sometimes fatal infections in young children, frail or elderly people and others with weakened immune systems, the company told CNN.

The products, which were distributed in California, Nevada and Oregon, have been packaged in 5lb cans, 1lb vacuum packs, 1lb plastic tubs and 8oz plastic tubs.

The company is investigating the cause of the problem.
