Pakistan reports rise in food exports

Pakistan’s food exports increased by 38.51% to $993.72m in the first quarter of 2011, compared with $717.45m during the same period a year earlier, according to figures by the Federal Bureau of Statistics (FBS).

Fruit exports in the quarter ending September 2011 increased by 43.13% to $65.28m from $45.61m year-on-year.

Vegetable exports totalled 55,507t and were valued at $23.34m, a rise of 77.26% from last year, while meat and meat preparations exports increased by 38.89% to $49.81m, compared with $35.867m last year.

In September, exports increased by 50.09% year-on-year and by 14.88% from August 2011 to a total of $323.385m.
