Nestlé to establish two manufacturing plants in Mexico

Swiss food major Nestlé is set to establish two new manufacturing plants in Mexico, with an investment of $1bn.

The company plans to set up a new infant nutrition plant in Ocotlán, Jalisco, along with a petfood plant in Silao, Guanajuato, in the next five years.

The food giant also plans to expand its cereal manufacturing plant in Lagos de Moreno, Guanajuato, with new technology.

Nestlé CEO Paul Bulcke said: "This investment is a striking example of our commitment to Mexico, and our long-term vision in a market with high growth potential."

The five-year investment will generate around 700 direct and 3,500 indirect jobs in the country, added Bulcke.

The new plants are expected to produce products for a range of markets globally. Around 40% of the products manufactured at the new Ocotlán infant nutrition plant will be exported to Latin America and the Caribbean.

Mexican President Enrique Peña Nieto said: "I want to express my recognition to the company which has deep roots in Mexico and continues to trust in our country."

Nestlé currently offers over 80 brands, which include over 1,600 products in Mexico.

The FMCG giant offers a range of products that covers almost every food and beverage category, including baby foods, bottled water, cereals, chocolate and confectionery, culinary, chilled and frozen food, dairy, ice cream, drinks and more.
