Mondelez commences construction of $90m biscuit manufacturing plant in Bahrain

Mondelez has commenced construction of its $90m biscuit manufacturing plant at the Bahrain International Investment Park.

The facility will have an annual production capacity of 90,000t. It will procure its required raw materials and other services from local firms, Mondelez claimed.

The US-based food maker designed and modelled the Bahrain factory as a multi-category plant that will be equipped with the latest technology for production on a large scale basis.

The factory will be equipped to manufacture six different biscuit categories in its first phase.

Mondelez intends to add more production lines in the future.

Mondelez Bahrain Biscuits project director Dmitry Shachenok said: "Accelerated construction activities are fast underway in the project’s strategic location at the Bahrain International Investment Park in Salman Industrial City.

"The facility is one of our most ambitious plans on tap for this year, a landmark initiative that will significantly increase the manufacturing supply chain of Mondelez International, to address the rising demand for our popular products such as Oreo, Ritz, belVita, Prince and TUC across the MENA region."

The new facility will provide 400 direct job opportunities and hundreds of other indirect jobs.

Mercury Mena, the project’s main contractor, will make use of the Building Information Modelling (BIM) system in the construction of the facility.
