Australia to get hot chip vending machines by year-end

Perth based Hot Chips Company has developed a hot chip vending machine, believed to be a world-first design, which will be rolled-out commercially across Australia by the end of this year.

According to Hot Chips, the robotic technology used in this machine will offer chips cooked in approximately two minutes using 10l vat of rice bran oil, The Guardian reported.

The chips company has been involved in this project for the last five years along with WA potato processor Bendotti Exporters.

Bendotti Exporters director Stephen Bendotti was quoted by the Guardian as saying: "It’s like a mini fish and chip shop.

"It’s got a freezer at the top, a fryer in the middle and you collect your chips at the bottom. It’s about the size of a Coke machine."

Having already completed the trial stage, the commercial production of the machine is expected to start this year.

The company is planning to manufacture 200 of such machines by the end of the year, with production increasing to 1,000 machines in 2016 and 5,000 in 2017.

Currently, such vending machines are available for public use in service stations in Adelaide and at the Ibis Budget airport hotel in Perth.

ABC.net reported that this Australian instant chippy is believed to be a world-first design though there are chip vending machines in countries, including Belgium and Dubai.
