Darigold to fast-track transformation of global ingredients business

US-based dairy cooperative Darigold has unveiled its organisational changes to fast-track its long-term transformational strategy for its global ingredients business.

Darigold, the marketing and processing subsidiary of the Northwest Dairy Association (NDA), announced its ten-year transformation and growth strategy in 2018, which included a series of investments such as the construction of a global ingredients plant.

Darigold appointed Matthew Sagendorf to lead the construction and manage the plant. Sagendorf holds more than two decades of experience in engineering and growth projects.

He will be responsible for supervising and managing all on-site planning and construction works of the facility, as well as start-up and commissioning.

The selection for a site for the new ingredient plant is ongoing, with an announcement from the company next year, along with more specific details about the intended final products for commercialisation.

As part of its organisational restructuring plan, Darigold also appointed Joe Coote as its global ingredients president.

Darigold president and CEO Stan Ryan said: “Joe will be instrumental in leading the development and execution of our global ingredients business.

“His leadership profile and experience are uniquely suited to both our team culture and our business goals. We could not be more thrilled to have him onboard to continue our expansion in the global marketplace and increased focus on customers.”

Coote will assume the new role from 1 November. In addition, he will assume all operating responsibilities of the ingredients business and oversee the corporate-wide global supply chain functions.

The dairy cooperative also promoted Duane Naluai as consumer products president.

Darigold also promoted Grant Kadavy from his current role as COO to chief growth and risk officer.

The company announced that it is also streamlining its international distribution capabilities to support its production investments.

Under this initiative, the company signed a lease for 284,000ft² of warehouse space in the existing Prologis Emerald Gateway near the Port of Seattle.

Darigold announced that is also looking for a new head of engineering to partner on designing the plant and lead other enterprise-wide engineering projects.

In July 2018, Darigold announced its plans to expand its global operations and customer service capabilities by creating an overseas sales, service and distribution network, which is expected to strengthen the company’s international relationships.
