Country Crock launches dairy-free plant butter

Upfield brand Country Crock has launched the new dairy-free Country Crock Plant Butter.

Made with plant-based oils, the new Country Crock Plant Butter features oils from olives, avocados and almonds, as well as being gluten-free and kosher-certified.

It is certified plant-based by the Plant Based Foods Association (PBFA) and is suitable for vegan diets.

Upfield North America chief marketing officer Brian Orlando said: “We believe that plant-based eating has a positive impact on health and on the environment, and that plant-based food products should taste delicious.

“That’s why we set out to make a dairy-free butter that home cooks, chefs and bakers could cook, bake and spread with just like butter.”

The brand has made its new plant butter available in US stores in tub formats with Olive Oil or Almond Oil, as well as in stick format with Olive Oil, Almond Oil or Avocado Oil.

The tubs comprise 40% less saturated fat than dairy butter per tablespoon serving, and the sticks contain 25% less saturated fat compared to dairy butter per tablespoon.

Upfield noted that the plastic tubs and lids, as well as the cardboard box for the new butter, are recyclable.

From an environmental standpoint, Country Crock Plant Butter production is expected to generate less than half the greenhouse gas emissions than producing dairy butter.

Country Crock Plant Butter 16oz sticks are available for a suggested retail price of $3.49, while Country Crock Plant Butter 10.5oz tubs for $2.49.
