Barry Callebaut opens new chocolate factory in India

Swiss chocolate and cocoa products company Barry Callebaut has opened its new chocolate and compound manufacturing facility and warehouse in Baramati, India.

The new facility is Barry Callebaut’s third facility in India and the company’s largest investment in the country to date.

Located 250km south-east of Mumbai, Barry Callebaut’s new factory features a research and development lab, assembly lines capable of manufacturing chocolate and compounds in different delivery formats to meet the requirements of its customers.

Barry Callebaut Group CEO Antoine de Saint-Affrique said: “The new factory in Baramati celebrates India’s rich chocolate heritage and marks a new milestone in Barry Callebaut’s history of direct investment in India.

“It underlines our commitment to the world’s second-most populous country, a confectionery market with great potential. In line with our ‘smart growth’ strategy, the new factory expands our local production footprint in the region.”

The company said that the new facility will increase the production of ‘Make in India’ chocolates.

Once fully operational, the 20,000m² facility will hire 100 to 120 people in engineering and production segments.

The new facility will further expand Barry Callebaut’s manufacturing network in India, and also complements its other chocolate factory in Pune, Maharashtra.

In July 2019, Barry Callebaut broke the ground at the site of its new chocolate and compound manufacturing facility in Baramati, India.
