Europe’s food industry saw a rise of 57.14% in deal activity during March 2021, when compared with the last 12-month average, led by Agronomics, BY Capital Management, DSM Venturing, Humboldt Fund, Jeffrey Leiden, Rick Klausner, Section 32 and Taavet Hinrikus’ $47m acquisition of Meatable, according to GlobalData’s deals database.

 

A total of 33 food industry deals worth $131.56m were announced for the region in March 2021, against the 12-month average of 21 deals.

Of all the deal types, M&A saw most activity in March 2021 with 23 transactions, representing a 69.7% share for the region.

In second place was venture financing with eight deals, followed by private equity deals with two transactions, respectively capturing a 24.2% and 6.1% share of the overall deal activity for the month.

In terms of value of deals, venture financing was the leading category in Europe’s food industry with $82.12m, while M&A and private equity deals totalled $49.45m and $0m, respectively.

The top five food deals accounted for 88% of the overall value during March 2021.

The combined value of the top five food deals stood at $115.75m, against the overall value of $131.56m recorded for the month.
