WACKER Innovative Food Solutions and Ingredients

WACKER offers customised and innovative food solutions and ingredients for the life-science sector.

In particular, the company provides an inventive range of materials and solutions for improving products and processes in the functional food and nutraceutical industry.

Highly bioavailable curcumin

By complexation with WACKER’s CAVAMAX® gamma-cyclodextrin, curcumin’s bioavailability is enhanced considerably.

CAVACURMIN® is a highly bioavailable curcumin powder that is said to be more than 40 times more efficiently absorbed compared with leading commercial curcumin supplement products or curcumin powder. The bioavailability was assessed in various scientific studies.

CAVACURMIN® is available as a dry, free-flowing powder, which easily disperses in aqueous systems. It is ideal for use in dry or powdery dietary supplements such as tablets, capsules or nutritional bars, as well as for beverages.

Highly pure hydroxytyrosol

Hydroxytyrosol is an active ingredient found in olives and is considered one of the most powerful antioxidants. It has been studied extensively in recent years and, aside from benefiting cardiovascular health, it has been linked to many other health benefits on the eyes, immune system, bones and colon, as well as compensating for age-related deficits.

HTEssence® is highly pure nature-identical hydroxytyrosol with a high safety profile. It is available as a white, odourless product, which enables the use of hydroxytyrosol in a broad range of products such as dietary supplements, functional foods and cosmetics.

Stabilising oil-in-water emulsions with a fibre

With alpha-cyclodextrin CAVAMAX® W6 FOOD, WACKER offers manufacturers a possibility to replace emulsifiers with a soluble fibre.

CAVAMAX® W6 alphadextrin is a naturally occurring carbohydrate that is derived from starch with excellent emulsifying properties. It stabilises liquid oils efficiently and enables applications such as oil-based icing and emulsifier-free dressings and sauces.

WACKER’s CAVAMAX® W6 alphadextrin can be used for a wide range of viscosities with excellent organoleptic properties. It is non-hygroscopic, non-browning, colourless, neutral-tasting and easy to handle.

Soluble dietary fibre

CAVAMAX® W6 alphadextrin can also be added as a fully fermentable dietary fibre to beverages, including carbonated and non-carbonated transparent soft drinks. Solutions of CAVAMAX® W6 FOOD are haze free, colourless, odourless and have a low-viscosity. It also has a neutral taste.

New whipped formulations

WACKER found a technology to create totally new whipped formulations without fat and protein. With CAVAMAX® W6 alphadextrin, a diverse range of food products can be whipped into light creams, including fruit juices and purees, yoghurt, egg white and honey.

In addition, CAVAMAX® W6 is an excellent whipping aid for liquid and dry egg white, significantly increasing the whipping volume without influencing gel formation.

Innovative encapsulation solutions

WACKER offers molecular encapsulation solutions based on its cyclodextrin technology for odour or taste-masking, to stabilise food ingredients against heat and oxidation and to increase the bioavailability of functional ingredients, such as curcumin.

In this range, the company also has a highly bioavailable CoQ10 product, marketed under CAVAMAX® W8 Q10.

Wacker has more than 20 years of experience in manufacturing and formulating alpha, beta and gamma-cyclodextrins. With research and development (R&D) laboratories for food and beverage applications located in Adrian (Michigan, US) and Burghausen (Germany), WACKER is focusing on customised developments that meet specific customer needs.

Vegetarian fermentation-grade cysteine

WACKER produces a high-quality range of non-human, non-animal-derived L-cysteine products.

Starting from raw materials of vegetable origin and inorganic trace elements, these products are manufactured by the company’s patented fermentation process and are approved for use in vegetarian, vegan, kosher and halal foods.

WACKER’s vegetarian fermentation-grade cysteine is used in applications such as for the production of savoury flavours and as a processing auxiliary to make baked goods. High quality and strict adherence to all applicable international standards take top priority.
