Phoenix Gets Green Light to use Recycled PET in Food Containers

Phoenix Technologies International has been given the go ahead by Canada’s health officials to use up to 100% of recycled PET in its food containers.

The US-based rPET manufacturer said its LNO c process uses extremely small particle size technology to enable higher decontamination compared with other processes.

The technology has been designed for faster output and to save energy, Phoenix said.

The company said the process also achieves lower acetaldehyde levels, which makes it viable for taste-sensitive liquids such as water.

The company has been given permission to produce the materials by Health Canada’s Health Products and Food Branch, the counterpart to the US Food & Drug Administration, which has also allowed Phoenix to use recycled PET in food containers.
