Reinhart Foodservice to acquire Black River Produce

American foodservice distributor Reinhart Food Service has signed an agreement with Earth Brothers to acquire the assets of Vermont-based Black River Produce.

Financial details of the deal have not been divulged by either company. The transaction is expected to close later this month.

Black River Produce distributes meat, seafood, cheese, dairy, and speciality items across Vermont, New Hampshire, Massachusetts, Connecticut, Maine, Rhode Island and New York.

Black River Produce co-founders Mark Curran and Steve Birge said: “Since we founded Black River Produce in 1978, we’ve prided ourselves on being the fresh connection for our customers across the markets we serve.

“We are fully committed to our customers’ needs and providing them with the best locally sourced products they can find.”

The acquisition will further bolster Reinhart’s position in the New England distribution area. In 2014, the company opened its distribution centre in Essex, Vermont.

Reinhart president and chief operating officer Jeff King said: “Black River Produce is a great company with strong management focused on delivering the highest quality local products and service to its customers.
