Randox Food launches Anthelmintics testing platform

UK-based Randox Food Diagnostics has launched the Anthelmintics testing platform EV3770, which detects residues of Anthelmintic drugs in animals and helps ensure they are not passed into the human food chain.

Anthelmintics help increase livestock production as they work against internal parasites of animals such as tapeworms, liver flukes and round worms, but their usage should be effectively monitored.

The new testing array, which is used in combination with the Randox Biochip Array Technology and Evidence Investigator analyser, offers a broad test menu, which includes Avermectins, Benzimidazoles, Amino-benzimidazoles, Levamisole, Thiabendazole, Moxidectin and Triclabendazole.

According to the company, the platform can detect 25 analytes in total, which includes both parent and metabolite forms of the most commonly abused anthelmintic compounds.

It can screen albendazole sulphoxide and albendazole, which are two aminosulphones that are the primary residues found in tissue matrices, irrespective of whether animals are dosed with netobimim, albendazole or albendazole sulphoxide.

The array features a generic Avermectin biochip that detects residues of Ivermectin, Abamectin, Doramectin, Emamectin benzoate and Eprimomectin, which have been identified as marker residues in food by the EU, CODEX, Canada and the US.

The platform can detect limits of 0.05 – 3ppb (parts-per-billion) in milk and 0.15 – 6.5ppb in beef muscle, which helps in ensuring compliance with regulatory tolerance requirements.

The company claims the platform also reduces time and labour and increases sample throughput.

Randox Food Diagnostics, a division of Randox Laboratories, offers tools for screening antimicrobials and growth promoting hormones in animals and foodstuff.

Its products, which are aimed at the food and beverage industry, are manufactured at the company’s ISO 13485 accredited manufacturing plant in the UK.
