Plasma Clean and Meiko partner to eliminate food waste odours

UK-based developer of air purification systems Plasma Clean has partnered with Meiko to offer its Xtract 2100 Ioniser technology as a standard odour control system in the company’s food waste management systems.

According to Plasma, the technology completely eliminates the need for expensive roof exhaust odour control systems and that unlike regular exhausts, which divert odours to a different location, the Xtract 2100 uses ionisation method to destroy odours at the source before they become a problem.

Meiko managing director Bill Downie said the company now offers Xtract 2100 as a standard odour control option in the Microvac system because it eradicates smells at source, is easy to maintain and replace, and offers real value for money to customers.

"It’s a truly cost-effective way for our customers to combat food waste odours," Downie added.

Meiko’s systems transport commercial food waste to a central tank, where it is stored for several months before being disposed, and bad odours usually occur in vacuum pumps and ventilation areas of the system, which are now instantly eliminated.

The new technology was evaluated at a Meiko food waste management system serving the Langham Hotel in Central London, where foul smells emitting from the tank, exhaust and vacuum pumps of a Meiko Microvac system were leading to contamination of the loading bay and ballroom areas.

The trial results showed that Plasma Clean’s technology was successfully able to eradicate the problem odours instantly.

Plasma Clean said that its technology is set to be installed in the Mandarin Oriental Hotel, The Titanic and Atlantic restaurants in the soon to be opened office and retail development for Crown Estates in Regent Street and the development of the Café Royal, also on Regent Street.

The Lensbury Club in Teddington also plans to install Plasma Clean’s technology when it sets up a new type of food waste removal system in January 2012.
