Jay Shree to expand sugar business in India

India-based Jay Shree Tea & Industries, part of the BK Birla group, is planning to expand its sugar business by acquiring sugar mills in Bihar, India, in a deal worth Rs1.4bn ($28.25m).

The capacity expansion, which will be completed next month, will increase the mill’s crushing capacity from 4,200t to 5,500t of sugarcane a day.

In addition, the company, which entered the sugar business in 2010 by acquiring Bihar-based MP Chini Mills for Rs1.13bn ($22.8m), said that it is pursuing its efforts to increase its presence in India and expand its tea business.
