House Foods America to expand California tofu manufacturing facility

US-based tofu manufacturer House Foods America has announced plans to invest in its facility located in Garden Grove, California, to increase its production capacity.

The company will expand the facility with the addition of 36,000ft² of space. It will also install advanced automated machinery to increase tofu production by 50%.

House Foods America Sales, Marketing, and Product Development vice-president Gen Ohno said: “We’ve been astonished by how the demand for tofu and other plant-based foods has grown by leaps and bounds in recent years.

“Whether their main motivation is to be healthier or to protect the environment, it’s clear that Americans want to eat more plant-based foods, and that interest is not going away.

“We’ve seen this in our own tofu sales, which have grown incrementally year over year, and we’re excited about the need for a newly expanded facility to keep up with the demand.”

The new facility will be engaged in the production of water-packed tofu, one of the core products of House Foods America.

House Foods America claims that its tofu products are made using 100% US-grown soybeans and are kosher certified, Non-Gmo Project Verified. They are also free from gluten, trans fat and cholesterol.

The company’s latest investment comes in response to the growing demand for plant-based foods.

House Foods America national sales manager Paul Eastman said: “Consumers are eager to try something new. That’s one of the reasons why there’s been such an explosion in new plant-based products lately.

“We experiment with new flavours and products all the time. Expanding our Garden Grove facility and updating it with the latest equipment will allow us to roll out a variety of tofu and other plant-based products in the future.”
