Clear Labs gets $13m funding

Food analytics platform developer Clear Labs has raised $13m in Series B funding.

The new round of funding was led by Wing VC, with participation from Google Ventures, Tencent, Khosla Ventures, and Felicis Ventures.

Clear Labs CEO and co-founder Sasan Amini said: “Our mission is to help our customers mitigate risk through data-driven intelligence.

“Both our family of NGS-based food tests and software analytics offerings have huge implications for the scalability and accessibility of food safety and quality measures. This new funding will help us reach food companies on a global scale.”

The company will be using these funds to advance its software, continue to develop its NGS food tests, and expand its commercial operations.

Clear Labs implements its next-generation sequencing (NGS) techniques, which have been designed and developed to help retailers and manufacturers protect their brands and their supply chains, and ensure food safety and quality.

Clear Labs co-founder Mahni Ghorashi said: “The food industry is hungry for a more scalable and sustainable method to monitor and secure their complex supply chains.

“Our new round of funding and the addition of Mike to our board of directors will realise NGS as the industry standard of food safety testing technology around the world.”

The company’s analytics pipeline has the potential to translate quantifiable molecular tests into actionable information for food brands that use Clear Labs’ family of tests for the detection of food safety threats, quality assurance and new product development.
