Amul to launch e-commerce and mobile platforms to sell dairy products in India

India-based Gujarat Co-operative Milk Marketing Federation (GCMMF) has signed an agreement with technology company Infibeam to develop online and mobile platforms to sell its Amul dairy products.

These platforms will be rolled out in the next few months.

GCMMF managing director RS Sodhi was quoted by Just-food.com as saying: “All Amul products, including fresh milk, curd, butter, cheese, will be sold through our exclusive e-commerce platform and delivered to our customers’ door steps.”

These platforms will initially be introduced in Ahmedabad, the capital of Gujarat, and later to other parts of India.

Amul branded products are currently sold to customers through third-party retail sites and offline stores; however, all its B2B business is done through online platforms.

This agreement is part of the dairy cooperative’s efforts to achieve rapid growth.

For the 2017-2018 fiscal year, the dairy cooperative aims to generate sales of Rs300bn ($4.5bn).

It also intends to enhance its production capacity through higher milk procurements as it explores opportunities in overseas markets.
