Readfield Meats recalls beef trimming products in US

US-based Readfield Meats has recalled nearly 50,000lb of beef trimming products due to possible adulteration.

Operating as Ruffino Meats & Food Service, the Texas-based company had to recall 45,985lb of beef trimming products as they contained ‘For Cooking Only’ on the label, suggesting that they are 'intended for further processing to apply a full lethality at a federally inspected establishment'.

As the products were distributed to non-federally inspected establishments where it cannot be verified that enough further processing has been undertaken to remove foodborne pathogens that could have been present, these products had to be removed from shelves.

"These products that have been recalled by the company bear an establishment number ‘EST. 13126’ inside the USDA mark of inspection."

The frozen beef goods were produced from 26 May 2015 through 26 May 2017.

The recall is of 50lb boxes containing 'Beef Trimmings for Cooking Only', which have been distributed across retail markets, state inspected plants, and individuals in the state.

The company mentioned that it has not received any confirmed reports of adverse reactions due to consumption of these products.

Readfield Meats also urged consumers to not eat this product and return them to the place of purchase or throw them away.
