Zhongpin opens new pork processing plant in China

Chinese meat and food processing company Zhongpin has started a trial production at its new prepared pork products plant in Tianjin, China.

The $22m plant will produce sausages, hot dogs and Chinese and Western-style low-temperature meat products.

The facility, which forms phase II of the company’s industrial park in Tianjin, will have an annual production capacity of 36,000t.

Zhongpin chairman and CEO Xianfu Zhu said the new prepared pork plant in the Tianjin cluster joins its phase I plant for chilled and frozen pork, which it has produced since early 2010, with a production capacity of 100,000t per year.

"We believe with confidence that our new facility will yield good market share increases for our prepared pork products in greater Tianjin," said Zhu.
