Canada Bread Invests $100m in Bakery Unit

Canada Bread Company has invested about C$100m to build what it calls Canada’s largest bakery.

The 375,000sq² facility in the Red Hill Business Park in Hamilton, Ontario, is expected to take nearly 12 months to complete.

Canada Bread is planning to start the first production lines by July 2011 and the remaining lines over the next 18 months.

Canada Bread, which is 89.8%-owned by Maple Leaf Foods, had 2009 sales of C$1.7bn in 2009.
