Taiwan Recalls Products Over Botulism Scare

Taiwan’s Department of Health (DOH) has recalled over 2,000 bags of vacuum-packed dried tofu over fears of botulism contamination, according to an official.

The Food and Drug Administration (FDA) of the DOH said a total of 2,270 bags of the dried bean curd product, sourced from northern Taoyuan county, have been recalled for botulism testing.

Some bags were found to carry a date of manufacture set in the future, while some products were displayed or stored at room temperature instead of being kept under refrigeration.

Botulism is suspected to be responsible for recent illnesses and one death after victims developed symptoms of food poisoning, according to focustaiwan.tw.

The DOH’s Public Health Bureau said two women developed an illness after they consumed vacuum-packed tofu meat produced by a Taoyuan county-based factory.
