Ground Beef Recalled for E. coli Contamination

Montclair Meat Company is recalling about 53,000lb of ground beef products because of a possible contamination of E. coli O157:H7.

The products subject to recall include Montclair ground beef and all beef patties, the US Department of Agriculture’s Food Safety and Inspection Service (FSIS) said.

The problem was discovered through FSIS microbiological sampling.

Manufactured between 3 May and 13 May 2010, the products were shipped to retailers and federal establishments for further processing in Los Angeles, California.

E. coli O157:H7 is a potentially deadly bacterium that can cause bloody diarrhoea, dehydration and in the most severe cases kidney failure, the agency said.
