Erie Meat to Convert Campbell’s Plant for Hot Dog Production

Canadian company Erie Meat Products is planning to revamp a closed Campbell’s Soup facility in Ontario into a hot dog plant after the company received a $3m grant from the Government of Ontario.

The Mississauga-based company said it is planning to process chicken and turkey at the facility and employ 500 workers over the next three years.

The company recently invested $8m and is planning to invest about $40m to boost the business.

Erie Meat Products bought the soup factory in 2009 for $4.8m.

Production at the plant is expected to start by November.
