Tetra Pak opens cheese production site in Poland

Swiss food packaging solutions and processing company Tetra Pak has opened its new cheese production centre in Poland.

Built with an investment of €25m, the site features sales, engineering and manufacturing facilities required for cheese production.

Located in Olsztyn, the new facility covers a 12,000m² area and is expected to double the company’s cheese-making solution capacity in the country. It will also allow extensive equipment testing.

Tetra Pak Processing Solutions and Equipment executive vice-president Ola Elmqvist said: “As the only company able to deliver a completely seamless integrated solution for cheese production, this investment demonstrates our commitment to helping customers meet rapidly changing consumer demands and capture emerging growth opportunities.”

The facility features full-scale engineering capabilities ranging from cheese making process design to mechanical, automation and electrical engineering through to the manufacturing of processing solutions itself.

Elmqvist said: “One of the main reasons we chose Olsztyn is its excellent location in the heart of a region with a great dairy tradition and excellent food engineering talent base. This means we’re perfectly placed to serve not only our customers in Poland but also wider Europe.”

The site in Poland has been built in line with the Building Research Establishment Environmental Assessment Method (BREEAM) requirements.

It also features a ‘weather control’ system and rainwater collection system that supplies water for site maintenance.​

Tetra Pak noted that the company offers support to customers to develop new production methods, as well as processes to make cheese as an ingredient, on-the-go snack and high protein diet addition.
