Sysco to expand FreshPoint facility in Central Florida, US

US-based food products distributor Sysco has broken ground on the expansion of its FreshPoint facility in Central Florida.

FreshPoint is Sysco’s speciality produce company, which is engaged in the distribution of fresh produce across North America.

FreshPoint president and chief executive officer Robert Gordon said: “FreshPoint is excited about the growth of our Central Florida business and the expansion of our facility in Orlando.

“We are proud members of our communities and are excited by the opportunities our facility expansion will bring to expand our presence.

“We look forward to continuing to build relationships with our local partners and serving our customers with the increased capabilities our expanded facility will offer.”

The project will see the addition of 75,000ft² of space to the existing 76,000ft² facility, which is located at 8801 Exchange Drive in Orlando.

The expanded facility will feature roughly 18,000ft² of processing and production space for fresh-cut produce, as well as a system that takes waste and grinds it for compost in order to save fuel and energy.

FreshPoint is expected to use LED lighting throughout the facility as part of its sustainability measures.

The company will also establish a battery charging station with rapid-charge technology at the site.

The planned expansion works are slated to be completed by next year and the project is anticipated to create 250 jobs during the construction phase.
