Sound Agriculture secures fresh funding to accelerate plant breeding

US-based agro-tech company Sound Agriculture has raised fresh capital in a Series C funding round to accelerate solutions for food and agriculture.

Sound Agriculture is engaged in developing crop solutions, which are claimed to unleash the natural power of plants while helping farmers to produce crops with fewer resources.

In the S2G Ventures-led funding round, the company received $22m, which is to be used to fast-track the development of bio-inspired plant traits, as well as new business development efforts across food and agriculture.

Sound Agriculture CEO Adam Litle said: “Developing a more diverse set of crop solutions is essential to the success of growers, consumers and the wellbeing of the planet.

“We are thrilled to have S2G Ventures and Cheryl Martin join the Sound team. They provide a wealth of experience, network and resources as Sound expand its consumer side of the business that focuses on healthier, tastier and more differentiated food.”

In addition to S2G Ventures, existing investors that participated in the funding round include Cultivian Sandbox, Fall Line Capital, Cavallo Ventures, and Syngenta Ventures.

S2G Ventures is a Chicago-based venture fund, which primarily focuses on healthy and sustainable food innovation.

The company added that S2G Ventures managing director and CIO Sanjeev Krishnan has joined the company’s board of directors, along with new independent board member and chair of the board Cheryl Martin.

Krishnan said: “Sound Agriculture is launching new discoveries that are in line with our goals for a healthier, more resilient and more sustainable food system.

“By combining our understanding of evolving consumer food preferences with their novel technology platform, we will be able to provide new answers to the challenges facing the entire food system.”
