PureCircle to launch new stevia ingredient, Sigma Syrup

Malaysia’s stevia sweetener producer PureCircle has announced the launch of a new stevia ingredient for food and beverage companies.

Named Sigma Syrup, the new ingredient is an optimised blend of the company’s next-generation stevia leaf ingredients, including Reb M.

PureCicle has created Sigma Syrup from stevia leaf to address issues such as solubility. Sigma Syrup can overcome solubility challenges encountered when using other stevia sweeteners in products such as syrups and liquid tabletop sweeteners, which are high in sweetness intensity. It also has a clean, sugar-like taste.

The company has also announced the opening of its new innovation lab and office in Sao Paulo, Brazil.

This new facility will provide formulation support to its customers in the Latin America region. It will also help PureCircle’s customers in the speedy release of their products into the market and provide stevia formulation expertise to meet the needs of the South American market.

PureCircle has recently introduced its new varietal of stevia plants, which have been carefully cultivated and field-tested. This varietal has the potential to yield greater quantities of next-generation stevia ingredients.

PureCircle has said that these new developments will support its customers in their creation of zero-added sugar and reduced-sugar products.

The company is working towards the commercialisation of stevia-based protein and fibre ingredients next year.

In May this year, PureCircle signed a stevia supply agreement with Merisant, a producer of low and zero-calorie tabletop sweeteners for consumers. This partnership allows the two companies to strengthen their ten-year partnership.
