Shearer’s Foods issues voluntary recall of products over potential Salmonella contamination

US-based Shearer's Foods has issued a voluntary recall of products made with ingredients from a secondary supplier due to potential Salmonella contamination.

The secondary supplier is Valley Milk Products.

Salmonella can cause serious and fatal infections in young children, frail or elderly people, and others with weakened immune systems. Those infected experience fever, diarrhea, nausea, vomiting and abdominal pain.

The products that have been affected by the recall include a range of kettle chips, nacho tortilla products and potato chips.

Although Shearer's Foods has not received any reported illnesses, it is voluntarily recalling these products as a precaution.

The move comes after Valley Milk Products recalled a non-fat high-heat milk powder and sweet cream butter milk powder that is used in a variety of their seasonings.

Shearer's Foods’ recall is one of five secondary product recalls of products, which includes Great Value-branded macaroni and cheese and Publix pancake mix, reported Food Safety News.
