Progresso to use antibiotic and hormone-free chicken breasts in all chicken soup varieties

Progresso, a US-based food company that produces canned soups and other food products, will use 100% antibiotic and hormone free chicken breasts in all of its 36 chicken soup varieties.

The American canned soup producer is claimed to have become the first soup brand in the US to use antibiotic and hormone free chicken breasts in its soups.

Progresso marketing director Ray Joncas said: “Our purpose and passion is to make great soup just like you’d make it at home. In an effort to continually raise our quality standards, we listen to our consumers.

“So when we asked our consumers what they wanted most, we found that antibiotic free and hormone free chicken was what they wanted most.”

The company claimed that its soup products are also free from artificial flavours. It further added that it has removed artificial colours from 60% of its soups, and has a goal to increase this to 100% by 2019.

The soup maker also added that it has reduced the sodium levels in its 40 soup varieties, and has added seven soups to its certified gluten free product line. It also plans to increase its vegetarian soup options.

The decision of using antibiotic and hormone free chicken will be applicable to all chicken soups across Progresso’s Traditional, Light, Reduced Sodium, and Rich & Hearty lines, as well as its popular Chicken Noodle, Chicken Wild Rice and Chicken Dumpling varieties.

Progresso, which is a brand of General Mills, has also introduced new packaging this year, which features a modern, fresh look, and brighter blue colours.
