Corbion removes PHOs from food products

Bio-based product supplier Corbion has completed the process of removing all partially hydrogenated oils (PHOs) from food items, including emulsifiers, mixes and bases.

The US Food and Drug Administration (FDA) has given a deadline to remove all PHOs from their food products by next June.

The company claimed that it has achieved this target well ahead of the specified deadline, and now offers a complete portfolio of drop-in non-PHO solutions with full functionality.

Corbion emulsifiers global product manager Jim Robertson said: "By offering the complete portfolio now, Corbion helps customers make the transition smoothly and easily.

"Our customers can provide the eating experience and quality consumers expect, along with the cleaner labels they want."

"As an example, when we converted to the Ensemble emulsifier solutions, bakers quickly realised they could maintain the flavor and texture of their goods without PHOs, and without sacrificing quality, handling or shelf life. The results are delicious."

The company stated that its investment in non-PHO solutions will help its customers to improve position in the market as well as in producing food that is more ‘cleaner, safer, simpler and tastier’.
