Milky Way International recalls canned corned beef products in US

Milky Way International Trading, also known as (DBA) MW Polar, has recalled 297,715lb of ready-to-eat canned corned beef products, which were imported without re-inspection by the US Department of Agriculture’s Food Safety and Inspection Service (FSIS).

The items subject to recall were imported in the US between 6 June 2020 and 21 January 2021.

FSIS said that the products bear ‘Australia Inspected’ number ‘39’ and were shipped to various retail locations across the US.

The problem was identified after FSIS was notified by an industry representative that the beef products received from Milky Way did not undergo the FSIS import reinspection process.

The product cans are labelled with various ‘Best Before’ dates and the product cases feature various shipping marks.

FSIS said there have been no confirmed reports of adverse reactions due to product consumption.

Customers are urged not to consume the products and either dispose of or return them to the place of purchase.

The recall has been categorised as Class I, which indicates that product consumption can cause serious, adverse health consequences or death.

Last month, AH Company International Distribution issued a recall of 30,081lb of pork pâté products, which were imported without the benefit of FSIS inspection.

Based in Garden Grove, California, AH Company imported heat-treated shelf stable pork pâtés from an ineligible establishment and distributed them in the US without undergoing import re-inspection.

The products subject to the recall include 240g cans of Monique Ranou Pâté de Foie, 240g cans of Monique Ranou Pâté de Campagne and 180g jars of Monique Ranou Pâté de Campagne Supérieur.
