DouxMatok and Südzucker to commercialise sugar reduction technology

European sugar company Südzucker has entered a new partnership to manufacture and commercialise DouxMatok’s sugar reduction technology across Europe.

The initiative is intended to support the food industry’s efforts to reduce the amount of sugar in its products.

DouxMatok sugar is compliant with both European and US regulations and is claimed to cut down sugar content by 40% in various food products, while preserving the same sensory profile.

The patented sugar delivery technology operates by loading sugar molecules on a mineral carrier, which is said to result in an efficient delivery and enhanced perception of sweetness for consumers.

DouxMatok co-founder and CEO Eran Baniel said: “We see this cooperation as a vote of confidence by the best of the sugar industry in Europe in launching the first sugar-based, targeted delivery technology.

“Our vision at DouxMatok is to pioneer targeted delivery of flavour and food ingredients such as sugars, enabling consumers to enjoy the exact same tastes they know and love with a better and healthier nutritional profile.”

DouxMatok and Südzucker recently executed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) to establish a production site, as well as carry out the joint marketing and sales of DouxMatok sugar in Europe.

The new collaboration will see the partners endeavour to help food companies address the growing consumer demand for balanced nutrition, as well as assist them in complying with increasing regulatory pressure for reduced sugar content in food.

It will also focus on increasing DouxMatok’s production capacity, along with offering the company’s sugar to European food manufacturing firms engaged in the production of chocolate, spreads, snack bars, biscuits, baked goods and candies.
