Deals this week: Saputo, Weller Snacks, Verb Energy

Canadian dairy company Saputo intends to divest its dairy plant located in Koroit, Victoria, Australia.

The divestment is pending approval from the Foreign Investment Review Board and is expected to be complete in May 2018.

Weller Snacks has raised $1.25m in venture funding from Harrison Metal Capital.

Based in the US, Weller Snacks is involved in the manufacturing of hemp-extract enriched coconut bites, while Harrison Metal Capital, also based in the US, is a venture capital firm.

Verb Energy has raised $1m in a venture funding round led by Luxembourg-based venture capital firm Global Founders Capital Management GmbH along with participation from Great Oaks Venture Capital LLC, Vast Ventures Management LLC and an angel syndicate.

Based in the US, Verb Energy is an energy bar manufacturer, while Great Oaks Venture Capital and Vast Ventures Management, also based in the US, are venture capital firms.

Verb Energy plans to use the proceeds to launch a new range of energy-food products and develop its online platform.

Royal Group has raised CNY500m ($78.73m) through a public offering of medium-term notes.

Due 2021, the notes carry a rate of 7%.

Based in China, Royal Group is involved in the production, distribution and selling of dairy products.

The company plans to use funds raised to repay its debts and for working capital purposes.

China Everbright Bank was appointed as the lead underwriter for the transaction.

Archer Daniels Midland (ADM) has purchased a 50% stake in Aston Foods And Food Ingredients’ sweeteners and starches business.

ADM will own a 50% interest in two of Aston Foods’ corn wet mills situated in Ibred and Novlyanka, as part of the transaction.

Based in the US, Archer Daniels Midland is involved in the procurement, transportation, processing and merchandising of agricultural commodities and products, while Aston Foods is a Russian agricultural and food ingredients company.

The transaction will expand Aston Foods’ operations in Europe, Middle East and North Africa.

DoorDash has raised $535m in a Series D funding round led by the SoftBank Group Corp.

The transaction included the participation of existing investors Sequoia Capital Operations LLC, GIC Private Limited and Wellcome Trust Limited, which are venture capital firms based in the US, UK and Singapore respectively.

Based in the US, DoorDash is a technology company, while SoftBank is an integrated telecommunications services provider based in Japan.

Raised funds will be used to expand DoorDash’s on-demand platform.

Bega Cheese has agreed to purchase the Koroit Plant from Murray Goulburn Co-operative.

Based in Australia, Bega Cheese is a dairy products producer and distributor, while Murray Goulburn, also based in Australia, is an Australian dairy products producer.

Wingara Ag Limited (formerly Biron Apparel Limited) has raised A$6.71m ($5.2m) through the private placement of 19.18 million shares priced at A$0.35 ($0.27) a share.

Based in Australia, Wingara is an agricultural products processing and marketing company.

Plum Relish has raised $650,000 through a venture funding round led by Indie.vc.

Plum Relish is a food ordering, pick-up and delivery service provider, while Indie.vc  is a seed funder. Both parties are based in the US.

Chongqing Fuling Zhacai Group plans to raise CNY135m ($21.32m) through the private placement of shares.

Chongqing Fuling Zhacai has also agreed to purchase Sichuan Star Food Co Ltd and Sichuan taste of thick Food Co Ltd for CNY236.5m ($37.28m).

Based in China, Chongqing Fuling Zhacai Group is a producer and distributor of pickled mustard tubers and sauce, and other appetisers.

The company plans to use funds raised for acquisitions.
