Covid-19: 2SFG to temporarily shut Llangefni poultry processing plant

UK-based food manufacturer 2 Sisters Food Group (2SFG) has decided to temporarily suspend production activities at its Llangefni site as coronavirus (Covid-19) cases were confirmed at the facility.

The company said that the production at Llangefni will be suspended for 14 days with immediate effect.

2SFG in a statement said: “We will not tolerate any unnecessary risks – however small – for our existing loyal workforce at the facility.

“We have worked in close collaboration in the past week with Public Health Wales, Anglesey Council, the Health & Safety Executive, FSA and the Unite union who have all offered great advice, scientific knowledge and support, and we thank them for their help and guidance, which has informed this decision.

“Our sole focus now is to ensure we support all our colleagues through this time and look forward to operating safely and securely in 14 days’ time.”

It further added that the health, safety and wellbeing of staff is the company’s top priority.

In March, 2SFG announced that the company intends to fill several new roles to meet the demand for its food products amid the Covid-19 outbreak.

2SFG CEO Ronald Kers in a video message said that the company has decided to launch its first-ever nationwide recruitment campaign to fill in vacancies across all its businesses.

Kers said: “2 Sisters’ job is literally to feed the nation. Getting food to people has never been so important. As we come together as a country to fight the coronavirus, we need everybody’s help to keep our factories running.”
