Central Valley Meat recalls ground beef products in the US

Central Valley Meat in the US is recalling approximately 34,222lb of ground beef as it may have been contaminated with Salmonella Dublin.

The US Department of Agriculture’s Food Safety and Inspection Service (FSIS) said that the products subject to recall were produced on 23 July 2019 and were shipped to retail locations across California.

This includes 1lb chub packages of ‘Stater Bros. 100% pure ground beef 96% lean 4% fat’, 2lb chub packages of ‘Stater Bros. 100% pure ground beef 93% lean 7% fat’ and 20lb cases containing ‘Stater Bros. 93/7 ground beef 10# chub 10lb chubs/ 2 count’.

The products that are being recalled bear the establishment number ‘EST. 6063A’ inside the USDA mark of inspection on the case labels.

The FSIS has been investigating Salmonella Dublin since September, along with the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), and state and local public health partners.

In its investigation, the FSIS established a link between ground beef products manufactured by Central Valley Meat and the illness cluster.

This conclusion was based on an epidemiological investigation, which identified ten case-patients in six states with illness onset dates between 8 August and 22 September.

The FSIS noted that their investigation indicated that a case-patient consumed ground beef produced by Central Valley Meat.

In another traceback investigation development, the FSIS has advised supply chains to discard certain tuna supplied by Truong Phu Xanh, Vietnam.

In April, fresh fruit and vegetable company Caito Foods issued a recall for watermelon, honeydew melon, cantaloupe and fresh-cut mixed fruit as the products may have been contaminated with Salmonella Carrau. The fruit was produced at Caito’s facility in Indianapolis.

Salmonella Carrau is an organism that can cause serious and sometimes fatal infections in young children, frail or elderly people, and others with weakened immune systems.
