Atria to expand poultry production capacity with €130m investment

Finnish food company Atria is planning to expand its poultry production capacity with an estimated preliminary investment of €130m.

The investment will be used to upgrade the company’s existing production facilities and construction of new facilities and lines at the Nurmo plant.

Atria CEO Juha Gröhn said: “We will initiate the project planning based on preliminary studies. If implemented, the investment would be one of the largest single investment projects in Atria’s history.

“We have a strong belief in Finnish food production and the fact that the Finnish meat industry will succeed in international competition, as long as we have courage to invest in it.”

The company noted that the consumption of poultry has been increasing significantly in Finland for several years.

With this investment, the company aims to further strengthen its position in the poultry market.

As part of the initiative, the company will submit the application to obtain regulatory approval for expanding its production capacity.

Upon receiving approvals from the concerned authorities, Atria intends to make a decision on the implementation.

The project is expected to be completed by the end of 2024.

In February, Atria announced that it is reviewing its Russian operations for possible structural changes following a drop in net sales.

The strategy is aimed at rapidly improving the company’s business operations in Russia, which would entail increasing sales and margins, as well as turning the profit trend into a positive one.
