Ajinomoto to build facility for halal products in Malaysia

Japanese seasoning company Ajinomoto is set to build a plant in Bandar Enstek, Malaysia, for relocating its Malaysian subsidiary Ajinomoto Malaysia Berhad (AMB).

The facility will be built with an investment of MYR355m ($84.9m) in order to strengthen development, as well as the production of halal products.

Construction works at the site are expected to begin in the second half of fiscal 2019. The facility is slated to commence operations in April 2022.

The facility will be engaged in the production of umami seasoning AJI-NO-MOTO, flavour seasoning TUMIX, Rasa Sifu and menu specific seasoning SERI-AJI, as well as other products for processed food manufacturers.

AMB has been based in Kuala Lumpur since 1961. To ensure a satisfactory environment for stable production in the future, the company decided to relocate and build a new facility.

The plant will be built at the Techpark@Enstek site, as it offers better facilities to produce halal products and has good logistic conditions. It also offers future scope for the expansion.

An Ajinomoto spokesperson said: “With the construction of this new plant that will not only feature enhanced functions but will also be deeply rooted in the region and proactively address environmental and social issues, AMB aims to make a greater contribution to society in Malaysia and neighbouring ASEAN and other countries.”

Last December, Ajinomoto announced that it will build a plant at its Kawasaki Administration & Coordination Office for manufacturing and packaging soups and other products.
