AgroFresh partners with Del Monte in US

US-based AgroFresh Solutions and Del Monte Fresh Produce have signed a collaboration agreement to offer AgroFresh’s RipeLock Quality System to a greater number of retailers and consumers across North America.

The collaboration will provide Del Monte with direct access to AgroFresh’s RipeLock technology, which has been developed to extend yellow life and deliver better quality bananas, both inside and out.

RipeLock technology uses a two-part system to control respiration during transport, ripening and distribution, while reducing weight loss and improving the bananas’ appearance and taste profile.

AgroFresh CEO Jordi Ferre said: “Our demonstrated success in revolutionising the apple industry has provided more people with healthy produce year round and helps to reduce food waste.

“Our latest solution for bananas promises to do the same, while underscoring our overall commitment to enhancing fruit quality for both our customers and consumers alike.

The company claims that its RipeLock solutions enables partners to consistently display high-quality bananas, keeping them bright yellow and fresh longer.

Del Monte North America sales, marketing and product management senior vice-president Emanuel Lazopoulos said: “Del Monte has always been committed to delivering fresh, premium-quality bananas to our customers throughout North America.

“Now, with the collaboration with AgroFresh, we will have even more tools to support our customers and further improve their banana programme.”

The collaboration between AgroFresh and Del Monte is expected to support both companies in their commitment to exploring and developing new technologies to extend freshness, while enhancing the overall quality of their produce.
