Vegetable oils and fats producer AAK has opened a customer innovation centre in Singapore to help expand its capabilities in the South East Asian market.

The new centre is located at Biopolis, an integrated research and development complex that houses pharmaceutical and biotechnology companies’ research laboratories and public sector research institutes.

AAK Asia president Torben Friis Lange said: “This state-of-the-art centre will be focused on applications within chocolate and confectionery fats, bakery, ice cream and dairy, and special nutrition.

“We are dedicated to supporting our existing regional customers and giving them access to AAK’s global solutions as well as building new customer relations to further support our growth in South East Asia.”

AAK operates similar centres worldwide, where it works with customers to develop value-adding vegetable oil solutions.

Lange further added: “South East Asia is one of the fastest growing economies on the continent and the demand for speciality and semi-speciality edible oils are expected to grow strongly in the region.”

In June, AAK announced the opening of a customer innovation centre in the Minato ward of Tokyo.

With this investment the company aims to expand its presence in a market, which it entered in early 2016 when establishing a partnership with Miyoshi Oils & Fats, by forming a new company: AAK Miyoshi JP.

Headquartered in Sweden, the company operates 20 production facilities and sales offices in more than 25 countries worldwide.
