US food industry sees a rise of 13.04% in deal activity in June 2019

The US food industry saw a rise of 13.04% in overall deal activity during June 2019, when compared with the last 12-month average, according to GlobalData’s deals database.

A total of 26 deals worth $36.59m were announced in June 2019, compared to the 12-month average of 23 deals.

M&A was the leading category in the month in terms of volume with 13 deals which accounted for 50% of all deals.

In second place was venture financing with ten deals, followed by private equity with three transactions, respectively accounting for 38.5% and 11.5% of overall deal activity in the country’s food industry during the month.

In terms of value of deals, private equity was the leading deal category in the US food industry with total deals worth $32.45m, while M&A deals totalled $4.14m.

 

US food industry deals in June 2019: Top deals

The top five food industry deals accounted for 71.5% of the overall value during June 2019.

The combined value of the top five food industry deals stood at $26.15m, against the overall value of $36.59m recorded for the month. The top announced US food industry deal tracked by GlobalData in June 2019 was Alium Capital Management’s $10m venture financing of Hart Dairy.

In second place was the $10m venture financing of SeaCo Foods International by New Crop Capital and Stray Dog Capital and in third place was Plus Products’ $3.9m acquisition of Emerald Bay Wellness.

The $1.25m venture financing of Life is Life by 25Madison, Gather Ventures and Luke Abbott and Jay Brown, Jay-Z, Larry Marcus and Marcy Venture Partners’ venture financing of Vivis Life for $1m held fourth and fifth positions, respectively.
