North America’s food industry saw a rise of 3.70% in deal activity during August 2021

North America’s food industry saw a rise of 3.70% in deal activity during August 2021, when compared with the last 12-month average, led by Cargill and Continental Grain’s $4.53bn acquisition of Sanderson Farms, according to GlobalData’s deals database.

 

A total of 28 food industry deals worth $8.1bn were announced for the region in August 2021, against the 12-month average of 27 deals.

Of all the deal types, venture financing saw most activity in August 2021 with 12 transactions, representing a 42.9% share for the region.

In second place was M&A with ten deals, followed by private equity deals with six transactions, respectively capturing a 35.7% and 21.4% share of the overall deal activity for the month.

In terms of value of deals, M&A was the leading category in North America’s food industry with $4.65bn, while private equity and venture financing deals totalled $3.31bn and $87.5m, respectively.

The top five food deals accounted for 98.1% of the overall value during August 2021.

The combined value of the top five food deals stood at $7.9bn, against the overall value of $8.1bn recorded for the month.
