Total food industry venture financing deals in Q4 2018 worth $210.41m were announced globally, according to GlobalData’s deals database.

The value marked an increase of 183.5% over the previous quarter and a rise of 227.6% when compared with the last four-quarter average, which stood at $65.1m.

Comparing deals value in different regions of the globe, North America held the top position, with total announced deals in the period worth $155.99m. At the country level, the United States topped the list in terms of deal value at $152.24m.

In terms of volumes, North America emerged as the top region for food venture financing deals globally, followed by Asia-Pacific and then Europe.

The top country in terms of venture financing deals activity in Q4 2018 was the United States with 26 deals, followed by China with six and India with six.

In 2018, as of the end of Q4, food venture financing deals worth $431.37m were announced globally, marking an increase of 35.9% year on year.

The top five food industry venture financing deals accounted for 64.5% of the overall value during Q4 2018.

The combined value of the top five food venture financing deals stood at $135.67m, against the overall value of $210.41m recorded for the quarter.

The top announced food venture financing deal tracked by GlobalData in Q4 2018 was Cleveland Avenue and DNS Capital’s $50.28m venture financing of Beyond Meat.

In second place was 301 and CAVU Venture Partners’ venture financing of Lyrical Foods, for $40m and in third place was North Castle Partners’ $26.7m venture financing of Kettlebell Kitchen.

Blackbird Ventures, Chris Hadley, New Zealand Venture Investment Fund and Stephen Tindall’s $10m venture financing of Sunfed Meats and Yongchao Investment’s venture financing of Mr.Mark for $8.69m held fourth and fifth positions, respectively.
